Celebrating 50 years of Field Hockey!
Bella Vista Field Hockey
Bella Vista Field Hockey was established in 1968 as part of the Girls' Athletic Association when very few sports were considered acceptable for girls. Our program has a proud tradition of sportsmanship, team comradery, fitness, empowering young women, and using sport as preparation for life.
Since the late 1980's we have been the only high school in the Sacramento area to field an interscholastic CIF team. Throughout our history, we have maintained our program with coaching stability, having only four head coaches: Gerri Garcia, Carol "Chants" James, Lauri Schwein, and Andi Wright. We are currently part of the Eastern Athletic League and travel between Davis and Susanville for our league games.
While field hockey is not prominent in our area, we encourage our players, parents and coaches to be an active part of the field hockey community by participating in USA Field Hockey events, trainings, and programs. We regularly attend games, clinics, tournaments and camps at the few local universities who compete in NCAA DI field hockey. Several BV graduates have gone on to play field hockey at the collegiate level and we look forward to many more in the future.

As the only field hockey team in the district, we do not receive any district funding and minimal financial support from our school site. We continue to field a Varsity and Junior Varsity team with the help of family donations, fundraising, and community support. If you are interested in becoming a BVFH sponsor please click on
